Giulia Barbati is a researcher in Medical Statistics in the Department of Medical Sciences at the University of Trieste since 2016. She graduated in statistics at the University of Rome “Sapienza” in 1999, and after a period abroad (2000-02 post-lauream grant at University of Lausanne, Switzerland) she completed her Ph.D. in 2006 in Functional Neuroimaging at the University of Chieti, Institute for Advanced Biomedical Technologies (ITAB). Her research interests are focused on survival analysis methods, regression techniques for longitudinal data, joint models for longitudinal and time-to-event data. Moreover, she is interested in statistical methods and tools for exploiting informational content of health care administrative data and in machine learning algorithms for risk prediction in large datasets. 

Since November 2015, I am Associate Professor of Computer Science at the Department of Mathematics and Geosciences of the University of Trieste, Italy.  From June 2014 to May 2015, I have been guest professor of Modelling and Simulation at the department of Computer Science of the University of Saarland in Saarbruecken, Germany.  Before that, I was  assistant professor (Ricercatore) of Computer Science at the Department of Mathematics and Geosciences of the University of Trieste, Italy. I graduated in Mathematics at the University of Trieste in 2003 and got a PhD in Computer Science form the University of Udine in 2007.

Since October 2018 I am Assistant Professor (RTD-A) at the Dipartimento di Scienze Matematiche, Informatiche e Fisiche (DMIF) of the University of Udine.
From 2016 to 2018, I have been an "INdAM-Marie Curie" Research Fellow at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology (DIETI) of the University "Federico II" of Naples and at the Sección Departamental de Sistemas Informáticos y Computacián of the Universidad Complutense de Madrid.

From 2013 to 2015, I have been a "RANNIS-Marie Curie" Research Fellow at the School of Computer Science of the Reykjavik University. In 2011, I have been working as a post-doc at University of Salerno. I got my PhD in Computer Science at the University of Udine in 2011 and I got my Bachelor and Master Degree in Computer Science at the University "Federico II" of Naples in 2005 and 2007, respectively.

I have a Master's Degree and a PhD in Computer Science both at the University of Udine. I did a post-doc at the University of Amsterdam. I worked as Assistant Professor at the University G. D'Annunzio of Chieti and Pescara, and then I moved to the University of Udine. Since December 2016 I am Associate Professor of Computer Science at the University of Udine. I am interested in data and network science, bibliometrics and generative art. A long time ago I was fond of logic and even before of temporal knowledge. I approached theater, contemporary dance, dance-theater, cinema and contemporary circus. 

Ivan Girotto is appointed at the Abdus Salam, International Centre for Theoretical Physics as High-Performance Computing (HPC) Application Specialist. With more than ten years of experience Ivan Girotto has previously served, as computational scientist, at national supercomputing centres such as CINECA, and later at the Irish Centre for High-End Computing (ICHEC). Today at ICTP, Ivan is co-director and lecturer in number of international workshops and advanced schools as well as in other programs for education and training on parallel programming for scientific computing and HPC (i.e., the joint SISSA/ICTP Master program in HPC). His main activity at the ICTP remains to conduit and support the world-wide community to efficient research production on platforms for high-performance computing. Ivan Girotto is also one of the Principal Investigators of the Europen Centre of Excellence MaX - Materials design at the Exascale.

Carlos Kavka has a PhD in Computer Science from the Université Paris Sud (France). He is currently the Head of Research and Development of ESTECO SpA (Italy), a company specialized in multi-objective design optimization. In particular, he is in charge of the coordination of scientific, technical and technological aspects in most of the research projects in which ESTECO SpA participates. Carlos Kavka has been an Instructor, Lecturer and co-Director of international workshops at the International Center for Theoretical Physics ICTP (Italy) since 1993 till 2012, Professor at the Universidad Nacional de San Luis (Argentina) from 1994 till 2005. He has also participated in research activities at the LHC-CMS CERN experiment from 2005 to 2007.

Eric Medvet received the degree in Electronic Engineering in 2004 and the PhD degree in Computer Engineering in 2008, both from the University of Trieste, Italy. He is currently an Assistant Professor in Computer Engineering at the Department of Engineering and Architecture of University of Trieste, where he was formerly the dean of the Computer Engineering master program. He is the head of the Machine Learning Lab, which works together with industries to apply ML techniques to many domains such as, e.g., misuse detection in web applications, predictive maintainance of engines, proactive customer care. His research interests include Genetic Programming and Machine Learning applications, on which he authored 65+ scientific papers.

Alberto Policriti received his degree in mathematics from the University of Turin in 1984 and his Ph.D. in computer science under the supervision of M. Davis in 1990. From 1989, he has been at the University of Udine, where he is currently Professor of Computer Science at the Department of Mathematics, Computer Science, and Physics. His main research interests are related to Computational Logic and Algorithms: set-theoretic and combinatorial algorithms and problems, modal and temporal logics, and algorithms/models for bioinformatics. He has co-authored two monographs and has supervised or co-supervised 17 doctoral dissertations in logic, algorithms, and bioinformatics. He is one of the four founders of the “Istituto di Genomica Applicata”, has been a member of the scientific committee of GNCS – Istituto di Alta Matematica – and of the EATCS – European Association for Theoretical Computer Science. 

Giuliano Taffoni (male) PhD in Astrophysics and author of over 70 refereed papers, invited reviews, conference and technical papers. 
He is a development scientist at the Astronomical Observatory of Trieste. His main research activities involves Cosmology, HPC, Distributed Computing and Cloud Computing. 
Since 2006, he actively contributes to the International Virtual Observatory Alliance where he is the deputy coordinator of the Grid and WebServices working group. 
Since 2015 he coordinates the scientific applications WP activity of ExaNest Project for the design and development of the first European Exascale computing infrastructure.
